Astute People are currently recruiting for an experienced Electrical Commissioning Engineer to support a major data centre project in Finland on a long-term contract. The role is site-based and will suit an engineer with strong LV/MV electrical commissioning experience, particularly across switchgear, critical power systems and large-scale data centre or mission-critical projects. This is a long-term contract opportunity with an ASAP or flexible start date and a competitive day rate dependent on experience. Responsibilities and duties of the Electrical Commissioning Engineer role You'll be site-based, working alongside commissioning, construction and client teams to deliver electrical systems safely and in line with project requirements. Carry out electrical commissioning activities across LV and MV systems. Support testing, verification, energisation and commissioning of electrical equipment. Commission and test MV/LV switchgear, transformers and associated distribution systems. Complete commissioning documentation, test records and handover documentation. Support functional testing and troubleshooting of electrical systems. Work alongside commissioning, construction and client teams to ensure systems are delivered safely and in accordance with project requirements. Follow site Permit to Work, LOTO and health and safety procedures. Identify and resolve technical issues during commissioning. Professional qualifications We are looking for candidates with the following: Strong electrical commissioning background. Proven experience with LV/MV electrical systems and switchgear. Experience within data centre, mission-critical, power generation or other critical infrastructure environments. Experience with testing, energisation and handover. Good understanding of electrical protection and control systems. Ability to read electrical drawings and technical documentation. Strong understanding of safe working practices, Permit to Work and LOTO procedures. Relevant electrical engineering qualification or equivalent experience. Previous international project experience is advantageous. EU passport or existing Finnish work authorisation preferred, although relevant international candidates will be considered subject to work authorisation requirements. Personal skills The Electrical Commissioning Engineer role would suit someone who is: Experienced working on large-scale data centre, mission-critical or critical infrastructure projects. Technically strong across LV/MV switchgear, transformers and electrical distribution systems. Confident supporting testing, energisation, fault-finding and handover activities. Comfortable working with commissioning, construction and client teams in a site-based environment. Organised and methodical, with strong attention to safety, documentation and detail. A clear communicator who can identify issues and work collaboratively to resolve them. Mechanical Commissioning Engineer Data Centre Project - Finland Contract type: Freelance/self-employed contractor- site-based Duration: Approx. 6 months (with potential to extend, subject to project progress) Rotation: 17/4 rotation Start date: ASAP Rate: Day rate, dependent on experience Right to work: EU passport required We are seeking skilled and motivated Mechanical Commissioning Engineers to support our client's data centre project in Helsinki. This freelance opportunity sits within a wider hyperscale programme, working alongside the commissioning management team to deliver high-performance mechanical systems within a live, mission-critical environment. Candidates with prior experience on Microsoft data centre programmes are particularly encouraged to apply. What You'll Be Doing Commissioning Execution: Carry out commissioning activities across mechanical systems including HVAC, hydronic systems, smoke control, and building automation (BAS/BMS), working within the L1-L5 ASHRAE Commissioning framework as per data centre industry standards. System Validation: Perform functional testing, calibration, and performance verification of mechanical installations against design and operational standards, under the direction of the Commissioning Manager. Troubleshooting & Resolution: Identify issues arising during commissioning and work with engineers and contractors on-site to resolve them in a timely manner. Documentation: Maintain accurate test records and commissioning documentation, feeding into reports and supporting handover to the client. Team Collaboration: Work closely with the Commissioning Manager and wider project team, providing technical input and progress updates as required. What You'll Bring Experience: Proven experience in mechanical commissioning on commercial, industrial, or mission-critical projects. Sector Background: Data centre commissioning experience is essential; prior experience on Microsoft (or other hyperscale) data centre programmes is strongly preferred. Technical Knowledge: Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, ductwork, VAVs, hydronics, and BMS. Drawings: Ability to interpret mechanical drawings and specifications. Problem-Solving: Excellent problem-solving skills and close attention to detail. Safety: A strong emphasis on safety throughout all site activities. Communication: Confident communicator, able to work independently as part of a wider on-site commissioning team. Availability: Available to start ASAP and commit to a 17/4 rotation for the duration of the project.
